Engineering Academy is Coming!
Today, Minister of Education and Research Kristina Kallas signed the conditions for the establishment of the Engineering Academy, which were also announced at a press conference at Tallinn Secondary Science School. The creation of the Engineering Academy has been a long-term undertaking for the Technical University, actively pursued for over 2.5 years. We can rejoice that a significant step forward has been taken with the launch of the initiative.
The main goals of the educational institution within the framework of the Engineering Academy include increasing the admission of engineering students, improving the quality of education, reducing dropout rates, and increasing the number of graduates. Priority curricula have been selected based on industry needs, and they will be significantly updated and better aligned with the demands of the labor market. Project-based and problem-based learning will be applied more widely, with close collaboration with industry employers.
To support the learning process, individual support will be increased, using a mentoring system and creating additional opportunities for additional education in STEM subjects. In addition, more attention will be paid to the professional development of faculty, with special emphasis on supporting starting faculty members.
TalTech is not limited to university students but goes further by increasing girls' interest in technology. In collaboration with HK Unicorn Squad, courses are offered to high school students with the aim of involving 1000 young women across Estonia by 2026. The program also supports TalTech's Young Engineer Program, where over 60 young people receive in-depth technology education every year. In addition, e-courses are coming soon, which schools can use as elective courses.
